Lila-Zoé Krauß (*1994) lives and works between Vienna and Hamburg. She studied Fine Arts at HFBK Hamburg in the class of Jutta Koether and at CalArts in Los Angeles, as well as Sound Studies at UdK Berlin.
In 2024, Kunsthaus Hamburg presented Krauss’ first institutional solo exhibition, featuring a large-scale installation of her intermedia opera After her Destruction. Developed between 2020 and 2024, the work forms CHAPTER I of her ongoing opera cycle GIRL ANTHOLOGY. It was subsequently presented in the group exhibitions if you follow the river long enough (2024, Projektraum Dietikon, Zurich), Shifting (2025, Julia Stoschek Foundation, Düsseldorf), not yet yours to imagine (2025, DAS WEISSE HAUS, Vienna), and In Zukunft Schreiben (2025–2026, ICAT, HFBK Hamburg).
Since 2025, Krauss has been developing GIRL ANTHOLOGY — CHAPTER II, a Deconstructive Intermedia Opera that expands the narrative and compositional world of After her Destruction. Moving between autofiction and historical research, the work traces entanglements between psychiatry, neuroscience, cybernetics, and technologies of self-perception. At its center is the fictional neurofeedback program The Art of Mind, whose origins become the starting point for an investigation into the systems through which ideas of normality, madness, and the self are produced.
The project’s prologue, Dream VI: [Station 161], premiered as a video installation in the group exhibition Future Continuous at Kunsthaus Hamburg (2025–2026) and was subsequently presented in Drifting Feast at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts in Taiwan (2026). In April 2026, following a residency at ZKM Karlsruhe, Krauss presented new compositions and writings from the project as part of the TURNS series. The work is being further developed during a residency at the Cité internationale des Arts in Paris from September 2026 to January 2027.
Alongside her visual and performative practice, Krauss works as a musician and composer. She has released the vinyl albums Freedom/Fiction (2020) and After her Destruction (2024). Her work has been presented at venues and festivals including Kampnagel (Hamburg), NAVEL (Los Angeles), Pop-Kultur Festival (Berlin), Forum Stadtpark (Graz), documenta fifteen (Kassel), HKW (Berlin), Secession, and Volkstheater (Vienna).
