In the Last Resort (original „when all ropes will tear apart“) is a transdisciplinary performance project, conceived by Gregor Schuster and Lila-Zoé Krauß, that investigates both the expansive and precarious autonomy of lived resistance against a capitalist social order. Inspired by the life story of the German-Jewish expressionist Ernst Toller, a revolutionary social democrat and playwright driven into exile by the Nazis in 1933, the piece uses various forms of presentation such as music, dance, lecture and video to pose the following question:
„if everything falls apart – what remains?
Embedded in a sombre sound composition by L Twills (Lila-Zoé Krauß), this process-oriented performance is part of a longterm work whose focus is to capture and reflect the identity and experiences of queer artists. The piece was developed and presented in March 2019 at NAVEL in Los Angeles.
